Was it Black Jesus at Times Square? (48)

Clash of two worlds

I watched this homeless man take a seat at the head of the table at Times Square and he just sat there watching the world go by.

Joan Osborne’s song ‘One of us’ came to mind as I watched the world go by with him.

~ What if God was one of us?

Just a slob like one of us

Just a stranger on the bus

Tryin’ to make his way home?

If Jesus were to walk the planet again, many would disregard him the same way we did the first time.

‘A city’s health will always be determined by the way we treat the most vulnerable.’

Yep, I pictured a black homeless Jesus inviting people to sit at the table of compassion and very few were interested.

We were too distracted by the flickering lights that offer unquenchable promises.

I’m often the guiltiest of them all which is why I loved moments like these.

Maybe I was just too tired and it wasn’t black Jesus at all, it was just a homeless man trying to find his way home.

Prosperity will always draw the poor for obvious reasons.

To us who have, much is required.

I often forget that I’m a steward of all I have and not a proprietor. I’ll go out of this world the same way I came in. It’s what I do with what I’ve been given that determines the fullness of my life.
